  1. Overview

    The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (the "Boilermakers") is committed to respecting the privacy of our users. We strive to provide a safe and secure user experience. This Privacy Statement sets forth the usage practices that apply to the Boilermaker public websites and the online data collection and usage policies and practices that apply to the Boilermakers Members Only Site and Mobile App, and does not apply to information we collect in any other fashion.

    Your data will be stored and processed in whole or in part in Canada. If you use the Mobile App, some of your information may be processed in the United States to use the app. The information the Boilermakers gather on the Boilermakers Members Only Site may be shared with Affiliated Entities in order to deliver the services we offer to employers and members such as job calls/postings, job ready dispatch or in order to undertake analysis of our database such as aggregate profiling of our registered users. "Affiliated Entities" means entities that we control or are controlled by or are under common control with the Boilermakers.

    The Boilermakers Members Only Site contains links to other Web sites over which we have no control. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of other Web sites to which you choose to link from our Sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those other Web sites so you can understand how they collect, use and share your information.

  2. Collection and Use of Your Information

    In some areas of the Boilermakers Members Only Site, we request or may request that you provide “personal information”, including the following:

    • Your name
    • Address
    • Telephone number
    • E-mail address
    • Date of birth
    • Boilermakers registration number, and
    • Any other information from which your identity is discernible.

    We may also collect your professional information, such as your skill-related certifications and training courses completed. Examples of areas on the Boilermakers Members Only Site where we collect personal and professional data are pages where you can register for a Member account or submit an online application to become a Boilermaker member; the Boilermaker Mobile App; creating a networking account; sign up to use a service (i.e. Travel Card Pool), respond to a job call/posting, and apply for jobs.

    Your information is generally retained indefinitely unless you request in writing that information be destroyed.

    We may also collect certain health information, such as the results of audiometric testing, and provide these results, in summary format to you. For the safety and protection of members, you may be required to disclose the summary health testing results to your employer as a requirement to be allowed to work on specific job sites under the Boilermakers job ready dispatch program.

    Applicants who are in the process of becoming a Member of the Boilermakers have a slightly limited online account and do not have the same range of access as full Members. However, applicants can manage their online application.

    Each Member's profile may contain internal notes in respect of that Member. These notes can only be added or modified by site administrators, dispatchers, business managers and necessary support staff.

    We also gather certain information about your use of the Boilermakers Members Only Sites, such as what areas you visit and what services you access. Moreover, there may be information about your computer hardware and software that is collected by us. This information can include, without limitation, your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring Web site addresses, but is not linked to your personal information.

    We may sometimes afford you the opportunity to provide descriptive, cultural, behavioral, preferential and/or lifestyle information about yourself, but it is solely up to you whether you furnish such personal information. If you do provide such information, you are thereby consenting to the use of that information in accordance with the policies and practices described in this Privacy Statement. For example, such information may be used for the purpose of determining your potential interest in receiving e-mail or other communications about particular products or services. If you provide such information, you explicitly agree to receive e-mail or other communications about particular products or services. You have the ability to opt out of these communications at any time. Your information can only be accessed by authorized Boilermakers staff members and only when being used for the limited purposes set out in this Privacy Statement.

  3. How Your Information is Used

    We use the information you provide or we gather on the Boilermakers Members Only Site, whether personal, demographic, collective or technical, solely for the purposes of operating and improving the Boilermakers Members Only Site, fostering a positive user experience, and delivering the services and products that we offer.

    Specifically, your information is used:

    • to provide services or products to you available to Boilermaker members;
    • to respond to any correspondence from you or inquiries you ask us;
    • to understand, research, and improve our services, including understanding statistics and user feedback;
    • to satisfy legal, government, and regulatory obligations; and,
    • for any other reasonable purposes for which you may have provided your express consent or in which your consent can be reasonably implied.

    We may use your contact information in order to send you e-mail or other communications regarding updates at the Boilermakers Members Only Site, to contact you about your opinion of current services or potential new services that may be offered. We may also provide additional communications, promotions and information on new opportunities and additional job postings that may be of interest to you. The nature and frequency of these messages will vary depending upon the information we have about you.

    In addition, you may receive free informational newsletters from us relating to topics that may be of interest to you. You will have the option to opt out of receiving these communications. However, you cannot opt out of any account related system notifications that advise you of expirations, confirmations of your account changes or "due for renewal" notices.

    We have areas on the Boilermakers Members Only Site where you can submit feedback. Any feedback you submit in these areas becomes our property, and we can use such feedback (such as success stories) for marketing purposes or to contact you for further information.

  4. When Is Your Personal Information Disclosed to Third-Parties?

    We do not disclose your personal information to third parties, or your combined personal and demographic information or information about your use of Boilermakers Members Only Site (such as the areas you visit or the services you access), except as set forth below:

    1. We disclose information to companies and individuals we employ to provide services or perform functions on our behalf. Examples include the Boilermakers' National Health and Welfare Plan (Canada) and the Boilermakers' National Pension Plan (Canada) administrator, and those who manage the online system and web servers. These companies and individuals may have access to your personal information as necessary to perform their functions, but they may not share that information with any other third party unless you have provided the necessary authorization.
    2. We disclose information if required by law, if requested to do so by a governmental entity or if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process; (b) protect our rights or property or our affiliated entities; (c) prevent a crime or protect national security; or (d) protect the personal safety of users or the public.
  5. Other Uses of Non-Personal Information

    We share aggregated anonymous information about visitors to the Boilermakers Members Only Site with clients, partners and other third parties so that they can understand the kinds of visitors to the Boilermakers Members Only Site and how those visitors use the Site. We may also aggregate on an anonymous basis data regarding job qualifications, age, experience level or other information relevant to our Membership or the type of work/skills performed by a Boilermaker Member. Such data may be made available to employers, or fellow members.

    We do not collect nor share Members' financial information, nor Members' social insurance numbers.

  6. Posting to Open Areas of the Boilermakers Members Only Site and Mobile App

    Please remember that if you post any of your personal information in open areas of the Boilermakers Members Only Site or Mobile App, such information may be seen, collected and used by others over whom we have no control. We are not responsible for third-party collection or use of information you post or otherwise make available in open areas of the Boilermakers Members Only Site.

  7. Use of Cookies

    Please be aware that the Boilermakers Members Only Site uses cookies. "Cookies" are small items of data that Web sites store in your browser. These data files contain information the site can use to track and organize the pages you have visited and to gather information. The Boilermaker Members Only Site uses only "session" cookies - that is to say, cookies placed by the Boilermakers Members Only Site expire when the browsing session ends, further protecting your privacy and security.

  8. Access to and Modification of Your Information

    When you log in to your account and enter "My Profile", you have access to modify certain types of information. Some information is not changeable, such as your home local, your date of birth, and your registration number. However, you may not be able to change some of your certifications without contacting your training coordinator. You may not be able to change some of your job ready dispatch information (for example summary results of audiometric testing) without contacting the Boilermakers or the administrator of the Boilermakers' National Health and Welfare Plan (Canada).

    As stated above in Section 2, your information is retained indefinitely in an effort to improve your experience using the Boilermakers Members Only Site.

  9. Security of Personal Information

    We have implemented commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access, use, alteration or disclosure. However, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information for improper purposes.

    Access to the personal information that you provide on your Member profile is available to you through the unique username and password you create when you register (and are approved) for your Member account. It is each Member's own responsibility to select a secure password that is not easily cracked, thereby granting unapproved users access to the Boilermakers Members Only Site. Do not make your password commonly used phrases (like ‘Password’ or ‘123456’) or birthdays or family names.

    We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. We also recommend that you ensure you take appropriate measures on your computer to protect the privacy of your username and password, such as never saving your password in the browser, logging out properly after each session, closing your browser, making sure no one is watching you type your login information when in a public setting, etc.

    Please note that we can change your username, but we have no ability to retrieve your password. We can only reset your password if you have forgotten it.

  10. Use of Mobile App

    By using the Mobile App, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your information, including personal information, in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Statement. If you do not want us to collect, use or disclose your Personal Information in the ways identified in this Privacy Notice, you should not use the Mobile App.

    Your data collected through the Mobile App is used for the purposes set out in Section 3. Your data collected through the Mobile App is not used for third-party tracking purposes or shared with data brokers.

  11. Changes to Privacy Statement

    We reserve the right to change this Privacy Statement. If we decide to materially change our Privacy Statement for the Boilermakers Members Only Site or Mobile App, we will post those changes through a prominent notice on the Web site so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information, and to whom we will disclose it.

  12. Privacy Questions or Concerns

    If at any time, you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Statement or believe that we have not adhered to this Privacy Statement, please feel free to email us at security@boilermaker.ca or call us at 780-483-0823 Monday-Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm (Mountain Time), excluding Statutory Holidays. If there is no answer, please leave a message indicating your name and local phone number where we can reach you. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to promptly answer your question or resolve your problem.
